Gayle and Family - Please accept my sincere sympathy. It seems like yesterday that I met Ray as an eager 11 year-old who dreamed of becoming a lawyer. Ray presided over the mock court room as the judge and allowed me to live my dream, working as a defense attorney. As time went by, I decided not to go to law school, but I will always remember how kind Ray was to me as a young child and how he encouraged me to follow my dreams, no matter what they were. Dear Gayle - Micaela and I were out of the country until last night and had not heard the sad news. Ray and I met when a few of us came back to finish law school in 1971 after an interruption for military service. He was a pleasure to be around. Over the years we tried cases with each other and against each other and I always enjoyed his company. He will be missed. We are so sorry for your family's terrible loss. Tom St. John

It has now been just over a week since I received the call from Bill Bluege. But I still find myself tearing up from time to time; watched the Brewers today and recalled the many games we attended together-always a good time. Or the time I took Ray and Lewis to a Favre era Packer game. How surprised they were when the met two of my brothers and found out my siblings are as liberal as they. So many memories. . .

I had dinner with Ray in January, when he attended an Elder Law Workshop in which I was one of the presenters. Not only did he offer me sincere condolences for the loss of my father, but he treated me and two other associates in his firm to an elegant meal. What impressed me most was his description of his wife Gayle and how she was the love of his life. I was flattered to be compared to her in terms of being an assertive petite woman. The rivalry between my deceased father and Raymond was well known and perhaps overblown but they both were "big" personalities. As all of us, I am shocked and greatly saddened at this loss. Raymond was working with me to expand the availability of quality elder law services to low income individuals in Jefferson County through collaboration with the non profit in which I manage several legal services grants. My heart especially goes out to Gayle. My father was absolutely devistated when he lost the love of his life, my step-mother Sara, but unlike Gayle, the loss was over time and not sudden. I wish Gayle and all of Ray's family strength and comfort. As was said about my dad, his loss is the end of an era.

Brennan D. Balestrieri 1076 N 47th St Milwaukee, WI 53208 My family is deeply impacted by the loss of Ray Krek, a great man and wonderful community activist. Lots of lawyers stay away from politics and the heavy lifting of social change; Ray fought & fought hard for what he believed was right. He is an inspiration for myself and those he mentored & touched with his charity. I learned more from him about caring and giving in politics than in a decade of professional experience. His sincerity and humor was known throughout Wisconsin, and it pains me to think of the future without him on our side. He will be sorely missed and very fondly remembered. I know my father John Rhiel & my mother Terese share my ache. Please accept my deepest condolences, Brennan D. Balestrieri

As my attorney, Ray was there for me during a time when I lost faith in the integrity of professional people. He was a kind hearted person who had an energy about him that lit up the room. My condolences to his family, and his associates at Krek Law.

Ray was a very important member of the class of 1965 of Collinsville High School, Collinsville, IL. As well as my personal sympathies to the family, please accept the sympathy of the entire reunion committee and the class. I remember the last time Ray attended our class reunion. We wanted donations for attendance prizes and Ray brought a huge chunk of Cheese. What a guy. Prayers for the entire family who will miss him so much. Sincerely Diane Hadfield Miller

Ray will be sorely missed. He was a wonderful Rotarian, and a true friend. Ray always aimed high and believed anything was possible. I will never forget such an instance during the flood of 2008. I worked at Briggs and Stratton. Steve Lewis was in France. Ray was called upon to help with Steve's buildings when the flooding really started to get bad. I received a phone call from Ray during that trying time. He said he needed a semi-trailer and a fork truck and he needed them NOW. I was able to explain the need to upper management and they immediately released the items to Ray. He aimed high, and because of his ability to ask, the product in Steve's warehouse was saved. What a true friend indeed! He was passionate about so many things, including Rotary. I enjoyed having him regale us with stories of "the old days" and teaching us about Thomas Jefferson while in full costume. What a guy. Gayle and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have great memories of him and will treasure them for the rest of my life.
