Obituary of Ethel Mary Carnes

ETHEL M. (HAAS) CARNES, Minocqua, WI formerly of Jefferson Ethel M. (Haas) Carnes passed peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Sunset Ridge Assisted Living in Jefferson. She was born on August 8, 1922 to Aloysius (Allie) M. Haas and Mary M. (Kemmeter) Haas; one of fourteen children. Ethel graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940. On December 12, 1953 she married Harvey F. Carnes making a blended family with four children each having two children from previous marriages. Harvey preceded her in death on June 10, 1993. She was employed firstly at Stoppenbach's of Jefferson and then Jones Dairy Farm. She retired from Jones in 1983. She and Harvey also did farming. After her retirement Harvey and Ethel moved from Jefferson to the place they loved most, the Haas cabin in the north woods of Minocqua. Ethel enjoyed singing, especially with her brothers, dancing, farming, fishing, gardening, playing cards, doing word search puzzles and especially living in the north woods. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey, brothers Kenneth, Donald, Paul, Gerald, Russell, Allie Jr. and Richard , one sister Shirley Haas, son Wes Carnes, grandsons Wes Carnes Jr, and Wayde Carnes. She is survived by her sisters Lorraine Werner and Elaine Jung both of Jefferson, Margaret Wedl and Carol (Dave) Kemmerer both of Arizona, and sister-in-law Gloria Haas of Jefferson. Ethel is also survived by her children, Rosemary Blasing of Florida, Karen Klauer of Helenville, Ron (Polly) Porter of Nevada, Vicki (Bradley) Barnes and Dave (Karla) Carnes both of Jefferson and daughter-in-law Karen Carnes of Arizona. As well she has 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ethel's life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 2:00-6:00 pm at the Jefferson Rec. Center/VFW. "Up Nort'" or Minocqua attire is welcome. Memorial service will be held on Friday April, 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8781 Brunswick Road, Minocqua, WI with the Rev.
