Obituary of Helen Irene Stowe

HELEN I. FISCHER STOWE, age 90, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at her home in Jefferson on Tuesday January 2, 2018. She was born on August 1, 1927 in Glenwood City, WI, daughter of the late Chris and Victoria (Kaminski) Mikla. Helen married Robert C. Fischer on June 24, 1950; he preceded her in death on July 15, 1975. She then married Harvey Stowe on May 9, 1981; he preceded her in death on January 3, 2009. Helen worked at Jefferson County Human Services over 20 years as Volunteer Coordinator. Her passion in life was helping others through local organizations. She made a difference by organizing the Christmas Neighbors Program, Rainbow Hospice (founder), Jefferson Food Pantry, F.I.S.H, and Meals on Wheels. Helen was a devout Catholic and served her church in many ways. Her family was the center of her life. She was proud of her four children, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and grateful for her step-family. Helen enjoyed large family gatherings and any reason to celebrate. She is survived by her family; children Patricia "Patti" (Robert) Guttenberg of Madison, Steven (Pam) Fischer of Minnetonka, MN, Margaret "Margie" (Patrick) Voss of Wauwatosa, Vicki (Henry) Gleason of Cambridge and step-son Harvey (Lois) Stowe and family of Waukesha. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; Sara (James Chisholm) Guttenberg and son Matthew Chisholm, Jason (Kim Knoop) Guttenberg and son Julian Guttenberg. Ryan Fischer, Krisy (Ben) Wogen and their children Mac and Charlee Wogen, Rebekah (King) Nguyen and their children Patrick and Aden Nguyen, Tom Voss, Amy (Paul) Yanzer and their children Henry and George Yanzer, Jennifer Gleason, Megan Gleason, Melissa (Brandon) Trimbell and son Blake Trimbell, Step granddaughter, Kristine Leonard and son Rhett Leonard. Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday January 8, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Coyle presiding. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral home in Jefferson and then again at the church on Monday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. She is further preceded in death by her parents, siblings and great-granddaughter Olivia Guttenberg-Chisholm. Memorials may be given to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish (St. John the Baptist Catholic Church) or Rainbow Hospice in Helen's name.
