Obituary of Catherine R Schmidt

CATHERINE R. SCHMIDT, 95 of Jefferson passed away Friday April 8, 2016 at Alden Estates in Jefferson. She was born on February 21, 1921 in Belmont Wisconsin, daughter of the late John and Rose (McKeon) Mulcahy. She married Elroy Schmidt on June 10, 1950 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Truman, Wisconsin; he preceded her in death on December 26, 2000. Catherine graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville with her teaching degree. She taught school in a one room school house in Bethel Grove, Wisconsin. She then was a teacher at St. John the Baptist Catholic School and Jefferson Elementary School retiring in 1983. She enjoyed playing cards and gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parishes and a member of its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the VFW Post 3589 Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Jefferson Food Pantry and at St. Vincent's. Catherine and Elroy were Jefferson's first Gemuetlicheit king and queen in 1971. Catherine is survived by her sons Alan Schmidt of Wheaton, Illinois, and Brian (Susan) Schmidt of Nashua, New Hampshire. Grandchildren Zachary Schmidt, and Carrie (Pete) Smallwood. Sisters Rosemary Phillips of Oregon, WI, Margaret Leffler of Dodgeville, WI She is also preceded in death by her brothers Edward Mulcahy, Leo Mulcahy, Joseph Mulcahy. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday April 13, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Catherine's memory. Schneider-Michaelis funeral home is assisting with arrangements.
