Obituary of Lorraine Hazel Wedl

LORRAINE H. WEDL, 93 of Jefferson passed away Tuesday November 17, 2015 at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 27, 1922 in Cambridge, WI to Otto and Leona (Schimelpfening) Stelse. She attended many different grade schools in Jefferson, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1938. Lorraine worked as a telephone operator at the Bell Telephone Company in Fort Atkinson. She married Florian Wedl on August 23, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1996. She then worked for W.D. Hoard Company until 1943 when she moved to San Diego CA to join her husband who was in the Navy. She worked in an office in California until they returned to Wisconsin in 1945 and settled in Jefferson County. They lived at the Spangler Seed Corn house from 1949-1955 until they purchased their home in 1958. Lorraine was a waitress at Wally's & Harry's in Jefferson until purchasing the Wayside Inn from 1961-1972. She was the main cook and she prepared everything from scratch! She was also the cook at Meadow Springs, Cambridge Country Club, and the Edgewater retiring after working for 15 years in various restaurants. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parishes in Jefferson and the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years. Lorraine loved cooking and baking for others all of her life. She was well known for her pickled mushrooms. She enjoyed her Tuesday night cocktail hours and her martini with her Tuesday night group, and playing the slot machines. She is survived by her sister Eileen Miller of Whitewater, Aunt Geri Peck of Marshall, Sister-in-laws Vivian Stelse of Adams-Friendship, Georgia Stelse of Fort Atkinson, Elizabeth Teed of Fort Atkinson, Brother-in-law Norbert Wedl, nephew and care takers Thomas (Verna) Stelse of Jefferson. Many other nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Florian Wedl, Brothers Robert, Maynard, Ray, Merlin and her special friend Ed Kreklow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 12:00 noon on Friday November 20, 2015 with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson with the Legion Auxiliary service at 7:00 p.m. Then again on Friday morning at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
