Obituary of Joseph George Marek

JOSEPH G. MAREK, age 90, of Jefferson, passed away Tuesday August 18, 2015 at the Jefferson Memory Care Center in Jefferson. He was born on January 8, 1925 in Greenwood, the son of the late Richard and Marie (Koehler) Marek. Joe was a very successful and highly respected farmer in the Watertown area for over 60 years. In addition to farming, he was proud to have served as the Town Chairman for the Town of Shields for 12 years. Joe was a former member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. He is survived by his brother Richard (Shirley) Marek of Jefferson, sister Sr. Cynthia Marek OSF of Milwaukee, niece Mary (Dennis Tande) Manering of Waunakee, nephews; Kevin (Sue) Marek of Fort Atkinson, James Marek of Jefferson, Mark (Katherine) Marek of Jefferson, and Alan Marek of Madison. Joe is also survived by his great niece Elizabeth Tande, great nephews; Alex Tande, Zephyr Marek, and Corey Lynd, and his great-great nephew Cooper Lynd. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Hilda Bigler, Helen Eilenfeldt, and Ruth Manering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday August 22, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 1:30 p.m., until the time of Mass. Joe's family is very grateful for the compassionate care he received while living at Eagle View Manor in Jefferson, his home away from home.
