Obituary of Evelyn Christina Kortmann

EVELYN C. KORTMANN, 96 of Jefferson passed away Tuesday February 24, 2015 at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek. She was born October 8, 1918 in the Town of Jefferson, daughter of the late John and Edna (Becker) Oettmeier. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1936. On July 26, 1941 she married Earl Edward Kortmann at Friedens Church in Fort Atkinson. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1973. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Veteran of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary of Jefferson. She lived in Jefferson all of her life. In her earlier years she enjoyed knitting and cake decorating, but she loved playing cards, her coffee, and cookies until her death. Evelyn had a strong Christian spirit, never questioning but always following and accepting what the Lord had planned for her life. Her strong faith and pure heart was such an inspiration to those around her. Many children had the great privilege to experience her never ending patience and love through the years, well into her 90's she could be found playing on the floor coloring, putting puzzles together with her great grandchildren. She was a true matriarch of the family. She led by example and the example that she set forth was on that guided her family to remain strong in faith and love. She will be deeply missed by her family; daughter Janice (Richard) Riebe of Jefferson. 3 granddaughters; Heather (David) Draeger, Michelle Riebe, and Jennifer (Aaron) Adamzak. 3 great grandchildren Kelsey Riebe, Courtney and Alyssa Draeger. She is further preceded in death by 2 sons in infancy, Son Larry Kortmann, Sisters Alvira (William"Bill") Wedl, June (Harold) Gross, Eleanor (Clarence) Fleming. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 28, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Matthew Krenke officiating, burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Jefferson. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
