Obituary of Marion S. Popp

MARION S. (SCHICKER) POPP, age 90, of Jefferson passed away Tuesday September 9, 2014 at Alden Estates of Countryside in Jefferson. She was born on February 2, 1924 in Jefferson, daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Werner) Wedl. She married Ralph Schicker on April 26, 1947. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1973. She married Waldermar "Wally" Popp on June 25, 1988. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2004. Marion's three great loves were her family, her church, and volunteering. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and served on its parish council, St. Ann's Society, the Council of Catholic Women, and other committees. Marion was very active in the Jefferson community as a volunteer for many civic organizations and causes, including FISH, the Council for the Performing Arts, Christmas Neighbors, Red Cross blood drives, and municipal elections. She and her late husband Wally were recognized as Jefferson's Citizens of the Year in 1995 by the Chamber of Commerce. She will be deeply missed by her family including daughters Christine (Allen) Gabe of Rolling Meadows, IL and Karen (Kenneth) Fish of Denver, CO, sons Charles (Patricia) Schicker of Brookfield, Peter (Susan) Schicker of Lake Mills, Daniel Schicker of Janesville, and Mark Schicker of Lakewood, CO; stepchildren Cheryl (Russell) Heine of Jefferson and Daniel (Rebecca) Olson of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren Emily (Mathew Oster) Ardell, Molly (James) McGovern, and Jared Fish and great-granddaughter Anabel Oster; step-grandchildren Tracy (Joseph) Percival, Andrew (Brittany) Heine, Nicole and Tommy Olson and Aaron Suma. Marion is also survived by sisters Lucille Koehler of Jefferson, Helen (Joseph) Hauser of Jefferson, Carol Morgan of Jefferson, Joan (Bernard) Rabinowitz of Chicago, and Janet (William) Peterson of Jefferson and sister-in-law Margaret Wedl of Jefferson. Numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters Kathleen Wedl, Alice DePover, and Patricia Wedl, brother Paul Wedl, and brothers-in-law Joseph DePover, Carl Koehler, Gaylin Morgan. Visitation will be held at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 4:00-7:30 p.m. with The Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation on Monday, September 15 at 11 a.m at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church prior to the funeral mass. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday September 15, 2014 at St. John's in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle and Monsignor Terrence Connors officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
