Obituary of Sylvester Joseph Olszewski

Sylvester J. Olszewski age 90 of Watertown passed away Thursday August 14, 2014 at Marquart Health Center. He was born on February 12, 1924 in Shawano, Wisconsin, son of the late Ladislaus "Walter" and Mary (Franz) Olszewski. He Served in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1947. He married Cora Layton on April 17, 1945 in Brooklyn New York. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2014. Sylvester was employed at Borg Textiles for 33 years, and also Farmed in the Johnson Creek area for many years. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Johnson Creek, and the Johnson Creek American Legion Post 305. Sylvester enjoyed time with family and friends and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He will be deeply missed by his family; Daughter; Geralyn "Geri" Kolata of Deerfield, Sons; Virgil (Karen) Olszewski of Jefferson, William (Kathleen) Olszewski of Johnson Creek, Ronald (Chris) Olszewski of Johnson Creek, Thomas (Pamela) Olszewski of Johnson Creek, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He is further preceded in death by his son Bryan "Happy" Olszewski, 7 Brothers; John, Gene, Harry, Ed, Chester, Wally, and Frank, 4 sisters; Henrietta, Clara, Mary, Helen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 20, 2014 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Johnson Creek, with the Rev. David Wanish officiating, Burial will follow in the Parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
