Obituary of Herbert Schmitz

HERBERT F. "HERB" SCHMITZ SR. age 85 of Jefferson passed away unexpectedly on Sunday April 6, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was born on July 7, 1928 in Watertown, son of the late William and Addella (Ohrmundt) Schmitz. Herbert married Lois Petty on July 5, 1947. Herbert served in the United States Army and the National Guard for 24 years. He was employed as a Mechanic at Schweiger Industries for 38 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 164 Reinhardt-Windl in Jefferson and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Endl-Gruennert Post 3589 of Jefferson, and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Herb enjoyed camping, playing cards, softball. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Badgers, and NASCAR. Mostly he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his Sons; Herb Jr. (JoAnne) Schmitz of Jefferson, and Dale (Cheryl) Schmitz of Jefferson. Daughter Bonnie of Fort Atkinson, Four granddaughters; Lisa (Todd) Buckingham, Andrea (Rick) Kehoe, Chelsea Schmitz, Julia Drake, Three Grandsons; Jordan Schmitz, Levi Schmitz, Uriah Schmitz Seven great grandchildren; Lucas, Dylan Buckingham, Kayla, Keegan Kehoe, Faith Peterson, Kelsey Schmitz, Zachary Luebke, Special Friend Sylvia French of Jefferson. Other relatives and many friends. Brothers; William Schmitz of Harshaw, WI Preceded in death by; Parents, wife Lois 2-13-2010, Grandson; Darrell Schmitz Brothers Gerhard, Grover, Arnold, Clarence, Rueben Sisters; Amelia Teuteberg, Anita Johnson, Leona Hesse, Violet Weiting. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday April 10, 2014 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Jon Baumann officiating, burial with Military Honors will follow in the Rock River Cemetery in Jefferson. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson and then again on Thursday morning at the church from 10:00 am until the time of services.
