Obituary of Mary Jane Jeffery

MARY JANE JEFFERY age 81, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at her home. Jane was born August 31, 1931 in Springfield, IL to the late Ben and Alma (Prescott) Davies and grew up in the small community of Tallula, IL. After graduating with honors from Tallula Community High School in 1949, she went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from the Stout Institute (now UW-Stout). In 1953, shortly after graduation, she married Gerald "Jeff" Jeffery and moved to Jefferson, WI. After a brief career as a Home Economics teacher, she left teaching to raise her three children. An avid seamstress, Jane won two trips to a National Sewing Contest in New York City and, in 1952, won the Clark Cup Popularity Award for one of her creations. At home, she had many loyal clients who had her fashion their seasonal wardrobes and special occasion clothing. Once the children were grown, Jane re-entered the workforce and spent nearly 20 years at various administrative positions at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1994. Retirement allowed her to spend more time doing the things she enjoyed, including reading, quilting and cross-stitching. She will be deeply missed by her children; sons Stuart Jeffery of Jefferson and Kent (Shawn) Jeffery of Madison and daughter Lynne Jeffery of Monona. She was preceded in death by her husband Jeff. Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday April 16, 2013 at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson with Chaplin Shannon Finger officiating, burial will follow in the Union Cemetery.
