Obituary of Thelma Lewis

A. THELMA LEWIS age 94 of Jefferson passed away on April 1, 2013 at the home of her son. She was born on November 6, 1918 in Chicago IL, daughter of the late Isaburo and Agatha (Harvey) Goto. She married Dean Lewis on October 11, 1941 in Chicago IL; he preceded her in death in October of 2000. While living in Van Horne, Iowa, Thelma was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she held several offices, and was active in United Methodist Women, she belonged to a church circle, and taught Sunday school. She held an office in local Parent Teacher Association, was the local representative for the Salvation Army. She served as the president of the Benton County Republican Women, 50 year plus member of the Van Horne American Legion Auxiliary; volunteer election judge; member of Steinmetz High School Alumni; member of Van Horne Community Club and voted Citizen of the Year. Following their move to Wisconsin, she was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and Ruth Circle. Thelma enjoyed visiting, and attending many community events. She enjoyed reading and wrote poetry. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Diane L. Lewis of Jefferson, Her son; Steve (Joann Miller) Lewis of Jefferson Grandchildren; Ben Norden, Sorrel Dugan, Courtney Peterson, Wesley Lewis, Ross Lewis. Great grandchildren; C.J. Dugan, and Selah Dugan. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and two brothers. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 13, 2013 at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Nancy Carmichael-Stoner officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Dawson, Iowa. Friends may call at the church on the 13th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
