Obituary of Jean Elaine Wegner

JEAN ELAINE WEGNER, age 83, joined "Choc", the love of her life, on Friday, March 2 at Fort Atkinson Memorial Health Care, of an apparent heart attack. Jean was born on January 31, 1929 in Barron, WI to Carl Arvid Orn and Caroline McFarlane Orn. She graduated from the Wisconsin State Teachers College in Whitewater in 1950 with a degree in Business Education and was a 50 year member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She taught Business Education in Chetek, WI for one year. She married Donald E. "Choc" Wegner on August 18, 1951 in Barron, WI; he preceded her in death on November 21, 2003. She returned to teach Business Education and English at Jefferson High School for 2 years. Her teaching career also included teaching Geography in Fort Atkinson, and Business Education for 10 years at Lakeside Lutheran High School. She made a career change in l979 and became the secretary to Roger Reinel, in the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Government, retiring in 1991. Following her retirement, she and Choc wintered in Florida for several years. Jean loved to travel, and in addition to Florida, she enjoyed an Alaskan cruise and a brief vacation in Europe. She loved to watch the weather channel and her family warmly refers to her as "Doppler Jean" as she would call each of us to tell us 'there was a storm coming from the Dakotas and make sure we had bread and milk.' She was a lifelong educator, continuing to correct the family English at any opportunity—she couldn't help but correct the incomplete pronoun! Jean is survived by her children, Barbara (Howard) Miracle, New Market, TN; Lyn (Steve) Adams; "Bunny" (Charlene) Haas; "Chick" (Debbie) (Hank) Neils; and Ron (Heidi) Wegner all of Jefferson.
