Obituary of Robert Wayne Rue

ROBERT W. RUE age 77 of Jefferson passed away Monday November 28, 2011 at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 13, 1934 in Stoughton son of the late Oscar and Elsie (Hauser) Rue. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. Post his Military service he was employed as a Police Officer for the City of Janesville. He married Margaret Embree on February 1, 1969 at Long Beach California. They returned to Jefferson in 1970. Bob re-established his law enforcement career with the Jefferson Police Department. His employment spanned 30 years until his retirement in 1991. During his retirement, he worked part-time at St. Coletta Greenhouse, and at the Mid-State Auto Auction. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson, the Jefferson Lions Club, and the Wisconsin Professional Police Association. Bob will be long remembered for his animated story telling ability and his Ole and Lena jokes complete with his Norwegian dialect. Bob relished donning his "Santa Suit" and took immense pleasure in the joy his Christmas appearance brought to the children of family and friends. He was also instrumental in creating the once famous "Christmas Tree Lane" on Woolcock Street in Jefferson. He was a devout sports fan with a deep devotion to the Green Bay Packers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. He will be deeply missed by his wife Margaret, Daughters; Susan (Buddy) Bardsley of Huntington Beach CA, Caroline Rue of North Hollywood CA, Son; James (Shelly) Gomard of Lake Wood CA Granddaughters; Talisa, Alexis, McKenna Bardsley, Logan Gomard. Grandson; Tanner Gomard. Step-daughter; Dee(Tom) Burns of Omaha NE Step-son; Terry (Vicki) Enghauser of Omaha NE Step-grandchildren; Julie, Jenny, Jason Enghauser, and Angie Burns Brother John (Geraldine) Rue of Jefferson, sister; Nancy (Bill) Haberman of Jefferson Brother-in-laws; Jerry Embree of Jefferson, Larry (Billie) Embree of Quincy IL Sister-in-law; Bonnie Rue of Jefferson Special Niece; Julie Ihlenfeld of Fort Atkinson Many nieces, nephews and other relatives and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, Donald Rue, 3 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law and his beloved dog, Jake. Funeral services will be held at 1:oop.m on Saturday December 3, 2011 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Mark O. Bartsch officiating. Burial with Military honors will follow in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday December 2, 2011 at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson and then again on Saturday morning at the Church from 12:00 noon until the time of services.
