Obituary of Ralph Adam Wedl

RALPH A. WEDL, age 91, of Jefferson passed away on October 12, 2011, at Highland House in Waterloo. He was born on August 2, 1920, in Johnson Creek, son of Roman and Mary (Werner) Wedl. Ralph graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1938. He served in the United States Navy Seabees at Pearl Harbor and Iwo Jima during World War II. He married Marion Schicker on May 1, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson. Ralph was self-employed as a dairy farmer for 23 years. He was also the custodian for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School for 12 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family. This past April, Ralph flew to Washington, DC as an honored World War II veteran through the Badger Honor Flight program. He will be deeply missed by his wife Marion of Jefferson, 5 daughters; Jeannette (LaVerne) Haberkorn of Sun Prairie, Sharon (Robert) Kleinsteiber of Watertown, Ann (Randy) Logan of Cambridge, Kathy (Dave Nieman) Lehmann of Fort Atkinson, Connie (Pat) McDevitt of Kenosha. 11 Grandchildren; Susan (Jeff Carley) Haberkorn, Daniel (Becky Laack) Haberkorn, Laura (Bret) Nechkash, Craig (Tricia) Kleinsteiber, Sarah Kleinsteiber, Gregory Logan, Brian (Melissa) Logan, Jennifer (Micah) Riecker, Bradley Logan, Kelly (Thomas) Banner, Katlyn Vogel. 4 great-grandchildren; Kayla and Cole Kleinsteiber, Landon, and Makenzie Logan. 1 brother, Norbert (Margaret) Wedl, of Sun City AZ; 1 sister, Elizabeth Teed, of Fort Atkinson; 2 sisters-in-law, Doris Wedl and Lorraine Wedl, both of Jefferson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Florian Wedl and Alfred Wedl, and brother-in-law Roger Teed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson and the again at the Church on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or School, Rainbow Hospice or Badger Honor Flight.
