Obituary of Gerald Edward Baumann

Gerald “Jerry” E. Baumann, 76, of Jefferson passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

He was born on March 4, 1947, in Watertown, son of the late Harold and Arline (Kaercher) Baumann. He married Rita Reinders on October 17, 1970, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Johnson Creek. At 21, he began building what would become their family homestead where they would raise their seven children.

Jerry served in the National Guard from 1966-1972. He was employed as an upholsterer at Schweiger Industries, Jefferson, and Brickel Associates, Lake Mills. He also worked at Ladish-Cargill, Jefferson, and part-time at Jefferson Bus Service for 17 years.

Jerry was known for his ability as a craftsman, carpenter, and go-to fixer for family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone with any project and patiently teach them the skills to do it. He loved hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren.

Jerry was a member of St. Francis of Assisi parish, Jefferson. He had been active at both St. Lawrence and St. John the Baptist churches in ushering and various committees.

He was afflicted with numerous health challenges beginning in 1997 with a diagnosis of ALS. This was re-diagnosed to desmin myopathy eight years later. He bravely persevered through these challenges, never complained, and worked hard to provide for his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Rita of 53 years. Children: Peggy (Tom) Renz, Carrie (Mike) Rue, Nick (Lisa) Baumann, Andy, Bill, Tony, and Tom. Grandchildren: Carl, Gretchen, Rita Jane, & Mary Renz; Hilde & Liv Rue; Blake & Brettyn Baumann; and Wilma, Genevieve Rae & Bode Baumann.
