Obituary of Christopher A. Slechta

Christopher A. Slechta, age 58, passed away on Saturday, September 2nd, at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by immense love when he peacefully slipped away. Chris was born August 13, 1965, to Michael and Jane (Wolf) Slechta in Long Branch, New Jersey. He graduated from Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, New Jersey in 1983. Following graduation, Chris spent many years in the roofing business. Chris spent most of his boyhood years in Jefferson, Wisconsin where he attended West Elementary School. As a youth, he competed on the Jefferson swim team and was a regular attendee at the Jefferson swimming pool on warm summer afternoons earning him the distinction of being “a pool rat.” Chris was an accomplished wrestler all through middle school and high school where he earned a spot in the state tournament during each of his high school years. He was also an avid motorcyclist and could be seen racing motocross as a youth at the Aztalan cycle track in Lake Mills, Wisconsin founded by his father. As an adult, Chris competed in numerous enduro competitions around the country. Chris was quite an adventurer. He was in West Berlin, Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall and witnessed much of its destruction. He captained three transatlantic crossings in a 60-foot sailboat and traveled extensively throughout Europe and South America. During his later years, Chris enjoyed riding his motorcycle on the beaches of Costa Rica. Chris is survived by his mother Jane of Lodi, California, brother Peter of Sacramento, California and his niece, Tory. He is also survived by his beloved companion, Lisa Huber and family of Lake Mills and by numerous friends and family in Ridgefield, New Jersey. Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents. Jerry and Margaret Slechta, his father, Michael Sr. and his brother Michael Jr. A Celebration of Life will be held for Chris in Jefferson, Wisconsin and in Ridgefield, New Jersey at a later date. A special thanks to Rainbow Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Chris and his loved ones.
