Obituary of Nicholas Allan Kerkenbush

NICHOLAS “NICK” A. KERKENBUSH, beloved father, son and husband, age 40 of Jefferson, passed away unexpectedly at work on Tuesday September 11, 2018 in Madison.

Nick was born March 28, 1978, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, to Daniel and Alice (Caya) Kerkenbush.  He graduated from Potosi High School in 1997 where he was all-conference in football, baseball and basketball.  In 2002, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a degree in Construction Management and a minor in Safety and was employed as a Compliance Safety Officer for OSHA in Madison.

Nick married Rebecca Schicker on September 23, 2006.  He loved football especially the UW Badgers and enjoyed grilling and cooking.  He coached soccer for the Jefferson Recreation department and was a member of the Jefferson Kiwanis Club and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson.

Nick is survived by his wife Rebecca Kerkenbush, sons Jacob and Lucas Kerkenbush of Jefferson; his father Daniel Kerkenbush of Potosi, sister Geri (Scott) Leibfried of Baraboo, and brothers Kevin Kerkenbush of Potosi and Troy (Stephanie) Kerkenbush of Platteville.  Also left to mourn are his mother and father-in-law, Richard and Vicki Schicker of Jefferson who regarded him as a son, and his sister-in-law Sally (Michael) Richards of Rome, Italy.  He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Nick was preceded in death by his mother Alice Kerkenbush and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday September 17, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson with the Rev. David Zandt officiating.  Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson.  A Scripture Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

*In lieu of plants and flowers memorial donations will be allocated to the sports programs in Jefferson and Potosi. Nick believed very much in the Jefferson Rec Program and that every child should have the opportunity to try a sport regardless of financial ability. And sports were his passion in high school and were a very positive impact on his life.

Nick was a wonderful father and husband.  He was proud of his job and especially liked his recent work representing his Union. He loved watching Jake play on different sports teams and enjoyed coaching different teams for the Rec. Dept. over the years.
