Obituary of Stanley Phillip Nash

STANLEY P. "STAN" NASH age 74 of The Villages, Florida formerly of Jefferson, passed away on Tuesday August 24, 2010. He was born August 28, 1935 on the south side of Chicago to Stanley R. and Julia (Lewicki). Stan graduated from South Shore High School class of 1953 and a member of the ROTC. Following High School Stan graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign with an engineering degree and a minor in design. He served in the United States Army. He received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he met the love of his life his first wife Gaylene. After Basic training Stan was stationed in Germany as a demolition expert. Upon returning to the States Stand and Gaylene were married in Chicago, Illinois on July 8, 1961, she preceded him in death on June 10, 2002. Stan worked as a designer his entire life, first for vending machines and later of upholstered furniture. He will be best known for his unique, yet practical, furniture designs. Stan began his career with Strafford Furniture, Koehler, and Schweiger Industries and then most recently as a consultant to Lay-Z-Boy and Catnapper. Stan was an active Rotarian, serving as past president of the Jefferson Rotary Club in 1991-1992, and he held many positions within the Club. He was a member of the Chattanooga Hamilton Place Rotary Club and served as the Club Secretary. He loved the open road and going on camping trips with his wife, Gaylene, together they traveled throughout the United States and Canada in their RV. He also had a passion for sports cars, he owned a rare 1967, 327 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe. As a young boy he loved building remote control air planes that he and his father would take down to the lake shore to fly. Even after his move to the Chattanooga area, Stan remained an avid Green Bay Packer Fan often calling his children to complain about Brett Favre after the game. Stan will be deeply missed by his four children; Christopher (Cindy) Nash of Jefferson, Kendrick (Alyssa) Nash of Madison, Cindy (Kyle) Brom of Jefferson, Gaylene (Jerry) Rhoden of Wausau. Ten grandchildren; Pearson Nash, Shannon Nash, Courtney Nash, Lauren Nash, Jennifer Nash, Scott Nash, Jared Brom, Amanda Brom, Christian and Corrine Rhoden. His sister Julianne Kaderback of Bartlett, Illinois, his beloved cat Boomer and his current wife Rita (Andrews). Stan is preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Gaylene A. (Thompson) Nash, his parents, and his brother-in-law Charles Kaderback. A memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday September 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. A gathering time for friends and family will be from 12:00 noon until the time of Mass. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
