Obituary of Glenn John Wenzel

GLENN J. "PETE" WENZEL age 80 of Jefferson passed away Sunday August 22, 2010, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 20, 1929 on the family farm in Sullivan to Roy "Rex" and Norma (Naedler) Wenzel. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 in Germany during the Korean War. He married Helen "Bunny" (Woodward) in 1955; they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Together they enjoyed their family trips to St. Germaine and many trips around the country for the National Association of Home Builders. They also celebrated 55 years of friendship with their original euchre card club. Pete worked the majority of his career at Braun's Inc. in Jefferson. He was a member of the Jefferson County Realtors Association and the Professional Contractors Association. He finished his career with the Wenzel Homes & Reality. He was a long time Board Member of the Jefferson County Bank and Board member and past President of the Meadow Springs Country Club. Pete was an avid golfer and passionate sheepshead player. He enjoyed many years as an active member of Kiwanis and the Maxwell Street Marching Frog Leggers Society (a local businessman's group). He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Endl-Gruennert Post 3589, American Legion Reinhardt-Windl Post 164, He will be deeply missed by his wife "Bunny" of Jefferson, his three children; Vickie (Terry) Schlick of Black Earth, Kevin (Tania) Wenzel of Jefferson, Sue (Jeff) Viola of Jefferson; Grandchildren; Mike (Renee) Schlick, Jeremy Schlick, Ben (Alina) Schlick, Wes Viola, Brittani (Wayne) Atkins, Brett Wenzel, Mitchell Wenzel, and his great grandson Kaiden Schlick. His step-mother Elaine Wenzel of Jefferson, brother; Don (Lila) Wenzel of Brookfield, sister; Sue Vogel of Jefferson, sister-in-law Katherine Wenzel, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends further survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Lloyd "Butch" Wenzel, and infant son Peter John Wenzel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday August 25, 2010 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Mark O. Bartsch officiating, burial with Military rites will follow in the Rock River Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schneider-Michaelis funeral home in Jefferson, and then again on Wednesday mooring at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. We love you so much and can see you back on the golf course again, with a great game of sheepshead every night. Thanks for always being there for us.
