Obituary of George Edward Weis

GEORGE E. WEIS age: 82 of Spring Hill Florida, formerly of Johnson Creek, passed away April 3, 2010 at the Hernando Hospice Center in Spring Hill, Florida. He was born February 27, 1928 in Harvard Illinois, son of the late Rudolph and Mildred (Bremer) Weis. He married Martha D. Cork on October 2, 1948 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. George is survived by his wife Martha, of Florida; One daughter; Barbara (Joe) Schutten of Spring Hill, FL. One son; Dale (Jeanie Mattrisch) Weis of Helenville. Four Grandchildren; Jennifer (Shawn) Budig, Christopher (Tracy) Weis, Davis LeMaster, Damon (Irma) LeMaster. Nine Great-grandchildren; Zachary, Samuel, Hannah Budig, Cory Budig, Heinrich Weis, Derek LeMaster, Laurissa, and Gabriella Stachel, Christy Castaneda. One sister; Miriam Houk of Mukwonago, WI. Sister-in-laws; Rose, Marion and Grace. He is preceded in death by one son David Weis, Daughter-in-law; Linda Weis. Brothers; Wallace, Donald, Eugene Weis. Sisters; Ruth (Elwin) Auchtung, Doris (Dave) Merrill, brother-in-law Clair Houk. George had various jobs as: factory worker, delivery driver, carpenter, mason, farmer, and volunteer Fire Fighter for the Johnson Creek Fire Department. In 1956, he found his true vocation when he bought a tractor/backhoe (using the family furniture as collateral) and started "George Weis Excavating". His motto was "Let George do it." Through very hard work and perseverance the business was successful and continued to grow. In 1980, Dale & Linda Weis took over operations and the business name changed to Weis Excavating Inc. This legacy continues today with third generation granddaughter, Jenny (Shawn) Budig assuming management roles. Between 1980 and 2002 George and Martha maintained roles in the business, while also taking time to enjoy life. They maintained a cottage in Chippewa Falls, traveled, and spent time with friends. George always had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, and playing cards. They built a beautiful home and George pursued woodworking projects. Most of all he and Martha always had time for the grandchildren. In 2002 George and Martha moved to Spring Hill, Florida. This was near daughter "Barb" and husband "Joe". Who with unselfish love and devotion helped George and Martha maintain their own home. Only recently, George required nursing home care. George was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Johnson Creek. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday April 17th, 2010 with the Rev. Robert Hughes officiating, private family burial will be in the Zion Cemetery in Helenville. Friends may call at the church on Saturday the 17th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Following Mass there will be a Celebration of Life at the Johnson Creek Community Center, 417 Union Street, (parking off of Maple Street). From 12:00noon-2:00p.m. The family would appreciate memorials be given to the Hernando Hospice Care Center at 12242 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville, FL 34613 or to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Johnson Creek, or Jefferson Rainbow Hospice, 147 Rockwell Street, Jefferson, WI 53549 Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson is assisting the family with arrangements.
