Obituary of Irvin DOW

IRVIN H. DOW, age 72, of Rome died peacefully at home surrounded by his children on November 20, 2009 following his courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born February 27, 1927 in Black River Falls, son of the late Harmon and Florence (Hulett) Dow. He graduated From Black River Falls High School in 1956. After graduation he served four years in the United States Navy. He married Joan Halverson on January 27, 1962, she preceded him in death on November 12, 1996. He retired from Husco International of Waukesha after 37 years. After retiring he worked as a cleaner at the Sullivan Elementary school until the time of his illness. Irvin was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Rome for over 40 years. He served on the Church Council, the Building and Grounds Committee, and the Cemetery Board, and played on the church dart ball team. His greatest joys in life were his grandkids, gardening, hunting, fishing, and chopping wood. He and his late wife were loving parents of four children; Brian Dow, Jeff (Cathy)Dow of Whitewater, Kim (Dale) Tietz of Rome, Troy (Tracy) Dow of Whitewater. He was a devoted grandfather of Greg Tietz, Kaylee Dow, and Melinda Dow. He is further survived by four brothers and two sisters; Norman (Jeanette) Dow of Sullivan Sherman (Ann) Dow of Pewaukee, Lawrence (Donna) Dow of Land of Lakes, Melvin (Trish) Dow of Plover. Elsie (David) Radke of Hubertus, Marie (Ron) Venden of Bellville. One brother-in-law; David (Sandy) Halverson of Waukesha, and sister-in-law; Roberta Dow of Suring. He will be further missed by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, as well and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Joan, his parents, mother and father �"in-law Arthur and Eldora Halverson, his sister �"in-law Irene Dow and Brother Herman Dow, and three siblings who passed away in childhood. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 25, 2009 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Rome with the Rev. Brad Lindberg officiating, private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 24, 2009 at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral home in Jefferson, and then again on Wednesday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Do not be afraid, I am with you I have called you each by name Come and follow me I will bring you home I love you and you are mine.
