Obituary of Heron Melvin AMBROSE

HERON M. AMBROSE age 93 of Jefferson passed away Monday September 21, 2009 with his wife at his side, at Wellington Meadows in Fort Atkinson. He was born on September 3, 1916 in the Town of Aztalan, son of the late Edward and Rose (Schemmel) Ambrose. He attended St. Lawrence grade school and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1933. He was employed at Schweiger Industries for 46 years, retiring in 1981. He was a Charter member of the Upholsters International Union #301. He married Eleanor Pitterle on May 29, 1948. Heron was a member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council 1964 of which he was a Grand Knight and Financial secretary for 26 years. He was District Deputy for 4 years, member of the 4th Degree Ave Maria Assembly Honor Guard and also became Faithful Navigator. He served in the United States Army from 1942-1945 during World War II in Ruhr Pocket in Germany and was wounded and received the Purple Heart. A life time member of the Endl-Gruennert Veterans of Foreign War Post 3589. and a life time member of the American Legion-Post 164, the Disabled Veterans, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, and served as an usher for 60 years and was also a Lector. He volunteered at St. Coletta's doing upholstering for 20 years. He also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Society from 1982 to 1996. He also served on the Jefferson Library Board for 7 years. His great enjoyment is his 6 children and 9 grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead and doing daily crossword puzzles. He will be deeply missed by his wife Eleanor; his 6 children; Kathy (Jerry) Andersen of Madison Jim Ambrose of Menomonee Falls, John (Jodi) Ambrose of Oshkosh Jeanne Ambrose of Whitewater, Bob (Patti) Ambrose of Oconomowoc Cindy (Chris) Nash of Jefferson. 9 grandchildren; Jana and Joey Ambrose, Nathan (Jen) Ambrose, Sara, and Kelly Ambrose, Pearson, Shannon, Courtney, and Lauren Nash In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by an infant son Gerald, and his sister Lorraine (Norbert) Reidl. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Friday September 25th, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating, burial with military honors will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call to pay their respects from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson. And then again on Friday morning at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
