Obituary of Ione Joyce Schopen

IONE J. SCHOPEN, age 77 of Fort Atkinson, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Sienna Crest Memory Care in Fort Atkinson. She was born on August 2, 1940 in Fort Atkinson to Vernon and Marjorie (Brown) Rahn. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1958 and married Kenneth Schopen on August 10, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2015. Ione was a hairstylist for over 45 years, retiring in 2008. Through the years, she had worked at the Robin's Nest, Hair It Is, LeTress, and Vogue salons. Ione had a great talent for Rosemaling. She painted for many years, winning several ribbons for her pieces. In 2004, she received her Vesterheim Gold Medal in Rosemaling. Some of her painted pieces are now displayed in the Vesterheim Norwegian Museum in Decorah, Iowa. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. She is survived by her daughters Rita Schopen of River Hills, and Renee (Dan) Hibbard of Johnson Creek; sister Angeline (James) Buchholtz of Portage; sisters-in-law Camilla Rahn of Waukesha, Janet Hansen of Arizona, Barbara (Robert) Speck of Burbank, IL, and Ann (Russ) Ganzow of Fort Atkinson; brothers-in-law Nicholas (Lynn) Schopen, Charles Schroeder, Jack (Nancy) Schopen, David (Jean) Schopen, Mark (Linda) Schopen, and Michael Schopen, all of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Vernon & Marjorie (Brown) Rahn; her husband Kenneth Schopen; brother Carl Rahn; sisters-in-law Donna Schroeder and Judy Schopen; and brothers-in-law Thomas Schopen and Ken Hansen. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Bryan Engfer officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. Those wishing to give a memorial in Ione's name may direct them to Rainbow Hospice or to the Alzheimer's Association.
