Eugene Staude

Obituary of Eugene Kenneth Staude

Jesus took Gene home to eternal life on Monday morning, May 13, 2024.  He was surrounded by his family, and he is missed more than words can express but we take comfort knowing he is safe.

Gene was born at the old hospital in Watertown, WI on Sunday March 29, 1942.  His parents, Ernest & Dorothy (Vandre) Staude took him home to the farm near Johnson Creek on Switzke Road where he grew up. Being an only child for some time, his best friend was his dog until he was dragged, kicking and screaming to the one room neighborhood Boxelder Grove school where he met his new best friends & “partners in adventure”, Gordon and Gilbert.  In 1956 he was confirmed into membership at Farmington Immanuel Lutheran church.

He graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1960.  Shortly after that he took a bus to the big city of Minneapolis to learn how to work for an airline.  In the fall of 1961, he was recruited by American Airlines to work on their ground crew at O’Hare Field in Chicago.  He met up with other young men working there and together they rented a house on Lee Street in Des Plaines, IL.  He enjoyed life off the farm but was still homesick and one weekend in 1962, when visiting back at the farm, his Aunt Jeanette thought he needed a girlfriend.   She told him about the daughter of her friend and his friend Gordon dared him to drive down to Cold Spring and ask her for a date.

So, the rest is history.  On April 20, 1963, Gene married his new best friend and helpmate, Sharon Schimming.  They worked together and enjoyed untold blessings.  On May 7, 1964, their daughter, Renee’ was born and they made the move back to Wisconsin.  He worked for 30+ years at Crepaco before retiring early in 1999 to be able to run away to Texas for 25 winters where he made a hobby of being park handyman for several winters.

Daughter Renee’ found and married Mark Bollinger, who is the son they never had.  Mark and Renee’ gave him grandson Zach, who gave grandpa many joys including making Cori Haugom his bride and making him Grandpa GG with the birth of Harper and Hudson.

Gene always had to be doing something, He enjoyed yard work, mowing several lawns in the area and Greenwood Cemetery in Jefferson.  He enjoyed remodeling and together with Sharon they made their house into a home.  Gene also enjoyed restoring several vehicles (street rods) including beautiful “Cora” (1961 Corvette) that he and Sharon did a complete body off restoration the same year their grandson was born (1989).

Although in the last few years Gene could not be doing the same things he was used to, he was contented to have his memories of blessings enjoyed in years past.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jefferson.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of 60+ years, daughter Renee’ (Mark) Bollinger of Fort Atkinson; grandson Zach (Cori) Bollinger, Fort Atkinson; Great-grandchildren Harper and Hudson Bollinger; sister-in-law Dianne Staude, Casa Grande, AZ and her family; brother Neal(Christy) Staude, Eagle, WI and their family; sisters and brothers-in-law and families: Faye (Mark) Dochnahl, Squim, WA, Candy (Tom) Bubolz, LaValle, WI, Pam (Rick) Gasper, Delafield, WI; Step mother-in-law Betty Schimming, Watertown and her family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daryl, In-Laws Robert and Evelyn Schimming.
