Dear Family Members ... I've only learned of Dennis' death recently, from a listing in the Northland College magazine ... It came as a tremendous shock ... When we exchanged Christmas cards this past year (as we've done for many other years) he wrote that he'd been ill, but hoped to have his health issues settled by February ... We were fraternity brothers at Northland (Tau Kappa Epsilon); he'd visited with us many years ago, with Greta and Brian when we lived in New Carrollton, Maryland ... (We live in Annapolis now) ... I recall that Dennis was living in Manassas, Virginia at the time ... We saw each other at least once after that, at a Northland College reunion (see the photo) ... When he wound up back in Wisconsin, we corresponded (email) about getting together either back in Ashland, Wisconsin (where Northland is located) or perhaps on my way there (I return nearly annually) ... I was hoping this might be the year, but ... Dennis was a wonderful man and I considered him to be a very good friend ... He had many others at Northland (especially Don Abel, who was also from Marshfield) ... I wish blessings upon all his family members and friends ... My memory of him will never fade ....
Mark Travaglini / Northland College '69 / Annapolis, Maryland
PS: Please inform me of the date he'll be interred at Arlington ... Perhaps I can attend that ceremony.

Hi Mark! Not sure if you will see this, but thank you for reaching out to us. I am Connie, his oldest daughter. His death did come as quite a shock. His illness took him fast. It's still hard to believe he's gone. He had a lot of life yet to live!

Hi Mark this is his youngest daughter Heather. Thank you so much for writing on his tribute wall. His passing is still such a shock to us too. We miss him very much. We also thought his illness would be behind him in February. Still so hard to believe. I'm glad you have some wonderful memories of him and thank you for sharing the picture.

To Lonne and ALL the families:
"Then in peace I'll abide
When I take my final ride,
On a caisson
That's rolling along." (Original U.S. Army song)
As a 1964 classmate of Denny, and you Lonne, I (we) express our sympathy to everyone, friends included. Also, as a Viet Nam Veteran bud, I share personally the physical and mental injuries that all of us experience, so I graciously give a BIG 'thank you' to being within Denny's life. It was memorable to know he served in so many ways, so "may his final ride" to Arlington be blessed by God, and may God bless you with many memories.
With respect, Robert A. (Bob) and Marsha Steffen

Our hearts are heavy with grief in losing Dennis. We will miss those yearly visits: eating at 12A-Buoy, watching for dolphins on the dock, and listening to Bobby Vinton CD's. We will forever remember his beautiful smile and his kind, gentle spirit. Our deepest sympathy to Lonne and the Axelsen family at this painful time.

Dennis hired me back in 1989 to work for Information Associates (IA). He started out as a boss, and ended up as a friend. He will be missed by many. RIP dear friend.

Dennis was a great mentor in the Federal Government. He was highly skilled at sharing his knowledge and experience with younger employees, always with kindness and consideration. I remember having dinner with him in Washington DC and getting him to tell me about his Purple Heart. He was never boastful, but was truly a hero, serving his country both in uniform and later as a civilian. I will miss him, and will plan to attend his burial in Arlington National Ceremony.
