Obituary of Joanne M. Hilby

JOANNE M. HILBY age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday January 5, 2019 at her home in Fort Atkinson. Joanne was born on December 1, 1936 in Sparta, WI to Jacob and Agnes (Marx) Weiner.  She was the second of 6 children.  She married George Hilby on April 10, 1956, and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.  Together their lives were focused on their 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  Joanne worked various jobs in retail, medical and housekeeping.   However, being “the queen of garage sales” helped to serve her later in life when she spent over 15 years volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul in Jefferson. 

Joanne enjoyed traveling with and to family.  Her most memorable trip was the celebration of her 50^th wedding anniversary with the entire family, for four days in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains. 

It was her first time back there since her honeymoon. 

She is survived by her husband George Hilby of Fort Atkinson, children Robert (Jean) Hilby of Sun Prairie, James (Heidi) Hilby of Mequon, Patricia (James) Filak of Rockford, IL, and Dennis (Ae Kyong) Hilby of Dayton, OH.  Grandchildren: Robert (Stacie) Hilby II, Samantha (Benjamin) Peterson, Jacob (Emily) Sheely, Andrew (Ashley) Sheely, Breanna (Benjamin) Kopitzke, Brandon Hilby,  Sarah Hilby, Erin (Brandon) Stoffregen, Rachel (Steven) Claudin, Alec Filak, Rebecca Filak,  

Susan Hilby, Steven (Becca) Hilby.  Great grandchildren:  Lucas, Nathan, Charlotte, Emerson, Augustin, Robert III, Joshua and soon to arrive Avery.  Brother Paul (Mary) Weiner of Green Bay, sister Lavone (Charles) Larson of Deforest, Gloria (John) Habheggar of Onalaska, sister-in-law Sharon Weiner of Sparta.  Many Brother/Sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, and Mother & Father-in-law Valentine and Anne Hilby, Brothers Jerome and LeRoy Weiner, and great grandson Everett Hilby. 

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 12, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating, burial will follow the Mass in the Parish cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks any memorials be sent to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson or to St. Vincent de, Paul in Jefferson or to your local Hospice Care Center.
