Obituary of Richard James Fischer

RICHARD J. FISCHER “DICK” age 82 of Jefferson passed away peacefully at his home on June 21, 2018.  Dick was born on August 10, 1935 in Decorah, Iowa.  He was baptized on September 22, 1935 in Janesville, WI at St Paul's Lutheran Church where he was also confirmed.  He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1953.

On June 1, 1957 he married Joyce Braunschweig at St John's Lutheran Church in Jefferson, WI recently celebrating their 61st anniversary.

Dick was co-owner/operator of Fischer's Automotive with his brother John, where he worked until his retirement.

Dick's life was a life of service to his Lord and to his community. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church serving in various ways as congregational president, superintendent of buildings and grounds, a member of the investment committee, and Shepherds committee.

 He served in the WI National Guard in the 32nd Qtr. Master Company and with the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department.  Dick was a member of the City of Jefferson Common Council - serving 1 term as Council president and also 4 terms as mayor. He also served on the Water and Light Commission for many years.

Dick & Joyce were the 1993 Gemuetlichkeit King & Queen.

Dick was a 15 year member of USAC as a racing official at the Milwaukee Mile.

Hobbies he enjoyed were photography, music, trapshooting, gardening and was an avid NASCAR racing fan. He especially loved working in his yard, planting and redesigning the landscape.  He often could be seen working there the entire day.   He also enjoyed watching birds and trying to outwit the squirrels.

Most importantly Dick passionately loved his Lord, family and country.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce Fischer. Sons, Jim (Tammie) Fischer of Waukesha, Joel Fischer of Johnson Creek (Beth Werner of Madison), Daughter Janelle (Scott) Fuhrmann of Appleton, WI.

Five grandchildren Jamie (Josh) Dutton, Josh Fischer, Jordan (Jeff) Sartorius, Brock Fuhrmann and Haley Fuhrmann.

Two great granddaughters, Morgan & Dylan Dutton.

Brother, John Fischer of Jefferson as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday June 28, 2018 at St John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joshua Martin presiding.

Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 9:00 until time of service.  Burial will follow in the Christberg Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St John's Lutheran Church or School or to Rainbow Hospice.
